My Gratitudes

My name is Edward Khaoya; the director and the chief Executive officer of Kitale Family House of Hope.I was born on 18th September 1971 as a last-born son of the Late Mr. Jocktan and Late Mama Elizabeth Khaoya at Luhya Village Kamukuywa Scheme plot number 455. Later on ,my parents moved to Big tree farm where they worked as casual laborers and lived as squatters. I was raised in a very poor family. In those days, we could only afford three meals a week. Despite my academic potential, the dream of high school seemed unreachable due to the lack of school fees, causing me to retake my Class Eight exam three times.

My journey took a remarkable turn in 1991, thanks to my elder brother, Mr. Musekese, who supported my enrollment at Kitale Day Secondary School. It was during my high school years that I discovered my faith and received a calling to become a pastor. Today, I proudly serve as an ordained minister with the Association of Vineyard Churches in Kenya, overseeing churches in the North Rift region. I've never stopped pursuing knowledge and self-improvement as Nelson Mandela once said, "Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world" I hold a Diploma in Theological Studies, a Bachelor's in Education, and a Master's in Project Planning and Management from the University of Nairobi. Currently, I'm on the path to completing my Doctorate in Project Planning and Management at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT). During my Master's program, I conducted a groundbreaking study titled "Factors that influence the influx of street children in Trans-Nzoia County"  which has become a valuable resource for academics and stakeholders worldwide working to reduce the number of street children.

My life experiences, both the challenges and successes, have driven me to make a meaningful impact on communities. I am the Director and Chief Executive Officer of Kitale Family House of Hope, where we operate a rescue center for orphans and vulnerable children. To date, we've rescued, rehabilitated, and reintegrated over 3,000 young mothers, with 2,300 of them gaining technical skills in computers, beauty, hairdressing , tailoring and dressmaking. We've empowered 1,300 individuals with sewing machines to help them earn a decent livelihood.

Through House of Hope Ministries, we reach out to over 2,000 starving families annually in Trans-Nzoia, Bungoma, Turkana, and Marakwet counties, providing food mand other essential support. For a decade, we've organized medical camps focusing on anti-jigger campaigns, cancer screening, and treatment of communicable diseases in Trans-Nzoia County. Each year, we touch the lives of more than 3,200 individuals who may otherwise have had limited access to medical care, leading to improved community health. Our efforts extend to education through the Kitale Family House of Hope Academy schools, where we've positively impacted over 10,000 children who might have otherwise missed out on formal education. We're committed to paying the school fees for over 200 children in high schools across the country every year, and supporting at least 30 in universities and middle-level colleges. We have a new tertiary school program through House of Hope college that is open to all members of the community.

None of this would be possible without the unwavering support of my wife, Nancy Naliaka Khaoya, and my daughters. Their love and dedication have been an immense blessing on this extraordinary journey. I would also like to thank our partners, the neighbors aid community and all other donors and volunteers. Together, we are making a profound difference in the lives of countless individuals and communities.

About

Working with Kitale Family

Neighbours Aid is an Australian Not for Profit charity that was started in 2002 by John and Jesma O’Hara and a team of enthusiastic hard working volunteers. They had a vision to help some of the world’s most needy children and young people and their communities through education, healthcare and sustainability measures. Eighty per cent of the funds are raised by selling donated second hand goods through nine opportunity shops in Queensland, on Australia’s east coast. Over 400 people volunteer their time without payment to work in the shops.

In 2006 John and Jesma met Kitale Family House of Hope directors Edward and Nancy Khaoya during a visit to Kenya. A strong relationship developed that has resulted in the establishment of Kitale Family House of Hope children’s home, a teen mum’s home, Hope Academy and farming and sustainability measures. Thousands of lives have been transformed and young people given hope for a brighter future through their partnership. John and Jesma and their Australian team value our partnership with Kitale Family House of Hope.

My Passion

My name is Brenda Khaoya and I am honored to serve as the Project Manager for Kitale Family House of Hope Ministries, where our mission is to be a beacon of hope for orphaned and vulnerable children. At our Children's home, we do more than just provide shelter; we rescue, rehabilitate, and reintegrate these young souls into a loving family environment.

In my role as the Project Manager, I pour my heart and soul into our school, college, teen mum rescue center, and orphanage. Our school mentorship program empowers these children with the knowledge and skills they need to succeed in life. Our community support projects extend a helping hand to those in need, strengthening our bond as a loving family. We believe in the power of sports as a crime prevention and rehabilitation program, offering not only physical activity but also life lessons in teamwork, discipline, and determination.

Every day, we wake up with a simple yet profound motto: "our children, Our future." The future, as we see it, is a bright one. We believe that nurturing the dreams of these children is not just our responsibility but a sacred duty. We know that by giving them hope, we are contributing to a brighter world. As Wess Stafford once wisely said, "If we nurture the dreams of children, the world will be blessed. If we destroy them, the world is doomed." With the wisdom of Nelson Mandela echoing in our hearts, we understand that history will judge us by the difference we make in the everyday lives of these children. These innocent hearts, these dreams of tomorrow, they are more than we think they are. They are filled with potential and possibilities. All they need is a vote of confidence ; we give them that vote of. Their dreams today are the realities of tomorrow, as Wess Stafford beautifully articulated.

My passion for this work runs deep, as every day I witness the transformation of these young lives. It's not just a job; it's a calling, a dedication to shaping a better future for these children. Together, as a community, we are creating a haven of hope, where dreams are nurtured, and where, in the eyes of these young souls, the world is filled with endless possibilities. It's a privilege to be a part of their journey and to help them realize that they are the architects of their own bright future.

About

My Role

Drivers of Success

My name is Lydia Kimomoi- the Resource Manager at Kitale Family House of Hope. At Kitale Family House of Hope, we have a core mission that revolves around child care programs, primary school education, technical training centers, and a range of impactful activities that contribute to four significant thematic areas:

  1. Child protection and advocacy
  2. Poverty and dependency ratio reduction
  3. Education for all
  4. Good health enhancement

My primary responsibility is to ensure the efficient management and optimization of all resources, both human and non-human, to foster our growth and sustainability through strategic planning and execution. We are a dedicated team of 40 employees, with an additional 20 casual laborers and a diverse set of experts who provide specialized services. In times of special projects, such as construction, we engage with over 200 people. This not only furthers our goals but also provides opportunities for countless households in our vicinity to access basic necessities like food, shelter, and clothing.

Our secret to success lies in meticulous strategic planning and resource management. We are resolute in directing all our resources toward the right objectives, thereby enhancing productivity and regenerating resources – a fundamental tool that propels our growth and sustenance. One of the cornerstones of our organization is sustainability. We've implemented a range of projects to make a lasting impact on our community. Through farming, we engage in maize, dairy, poultry, pig farming, and horticulture. These initiatives not only help reduce expenses but also contribute to the livelihoods of many in the community.
